ATI DDB 4870 Crossfire 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I just installed the DDB with a connection to the MTEC Controller of my FZE. I am happy with the performance, but a bit concerned about a missing manual. I believe the cables are connected correctly (a squid cable was nicely provided with my shipment at my request), but the fan sits at 100 constantly. This would be bearable, if it stayed at a steady 100% but every few seconds it spins up even louder for a second or two (as if the second fan is cutting on). this is all at "web-surfing" activity - IE no 3d applications running.

I was under the impression that the fans would cycle up and down as load incresed (even if they were not controlled by and only monitored by the MTEC)

Is there any way to stop it from running wide open all the time?

Thanks,
Narf

Update. If i restart the MMC service the FAN on the DDB drops to 40%, but it immediately begins spinning up by 2-3% every second or so until it reaches and stays at 100%.

Hi Narf,

Reinstall the software and firmware for your MTEC controller found on our website. Be sure that you install software version 1.52 with firmware version 2.04. Also, all of our manuals should be accessible for download from out site.

jbjtkbw00, get in touch with me directly and I will sell you one

I was using the newest firmware and software. After reinstalling it worked fine until reboot.

I managed to track the weird behavior down to the service not liking the CORETemp or any other CPU monitors I tried. If I disable the service, then start CORETemp, then restart the service everything works well. Even with the FZE alone it was doing this, but I never noticed it as the FZE seems to default to 40% (to avoid over cooling I think)whereas the DDB defaults to 100% when not running the MMC service. My old main board never had the issue with the FZE, so it may be a temperature sensor issue. In any case, this is a good workaround, as I rarely reboot, and it takes maybe 10 secs to stop the service before I run CORETemp.
