Wow those are really warped. That looks like much more than just an uneven anodize.

When I anodize stuff I use a very simple process. To sum it up here is the process...

1. Clean and degrease the parts.
2. Anodize in an acid bath at 12 amps/square foot for 45 minutes. Keep temp at 21-24c.
3. Remove parts from acid bath and rinse with distilled water.
4. Dye parts (if desired) in warm dye, ~35 - 60c.
5. Seal parts by placing in boiling distilled water for 20-30 minutes.

There are other ways of anodizing. Do you know what type of anodizing he used? Im betting he used type 3.

You could try boiling them in distilled water for a few minutes, cool to room temp and recheck for flatness.

My guess though is that the parts were compression racked from one side to the opposite and in doing so, in order to assure good electrical contact and prevent burning (especially important on thin parts), bowed the parts. Once they are hardcoated in the bowed state, they'll likely return to that same bowed state unless something dramatic happens to redistribute the stress (perhaps heat and pressure like the boil method I mentioned earlier). The only sure thing is to strip them, then re-flatten them and have them re-hardcoated though I think.

Hey Youeffsee,

You seem to know what you are talking about, how would you like to try and fix them? Obviously I would pay (within reason)!

Let me know....

Look forward to hearing back.

Cheers,

Gavin

i still would use them, a little round on top, still can screw it down.
The most important thing is that the bottom is flat what needs to be attached to the TEC peltier modules.

Three of them are a little warped on the underside, they need fixed or replaced. I havent had much luck finding replacements.

Hey Gav

I really dont feel comfortable doing that for you for the simple fact that its not a for sure thing. Im no pro, just a guy that knows alittle of everything.

It will be no problem striping and re anodizing them, even flattening them shouldnt be too hard. Its a fairly easy process. But the last thing I would want to do is have to charge you for something and then have it turn out just the same.

I dont have anything I need for anodizing right now and would have to buy it all. Havnt anodized anything since I moved awhile back and that is 1 of my boxes that went missing in the move. (Have you noticed you always loose 1 box while moving?)

It is pretty hard to find some type of replacement block. Ive spent a good 4-5hrs searching around for you the last week. Cant find anything close.

Where abouts are you. Maybe we could find a better shop around you.

If worst comes to worst let me know and for sure I can try my hand at em. I cant promise anything except I will get all OCD on em.

Hey Youeffsee,

I moved from Alberta to Germany about 18months ago and I still have about 20 boxes in the basement and i am probably moving to Moscow in a few months. I find myself in the store buying things that i am sure I had ?!?

Anyway, I have asked for a quote to have some custom blocks machined.... I suspect the cost will be ridiculous, so you may be my best option. At the same time I do understand what you are saying.

How about this, I cover all the costs and if we are happy with the results I throw something on top? At the end of the day worst case you will be setup for anodizing again.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Gav

I have your email, I just wanted to remove it so you dont get spammed. Our forum has sort of been under attack the last few weeks.

Hahaha, yup Ive had a few of those moves.... You must miss Alberta. The air is just better here.

Ya Ive also been looking at some places to custom make blocks. The best place Ive seemed to find is these guys...

www.customthermoelectric.com/index.htm

I havnt contacted them but they actually look promising with what all they carry.

And ya if it comes to it that would be a great plan. Like I said the only big thing Im really worried about is charging you for something that might not work. But if we work around that and were both cool with it than we have no worries.

Thats funny I actually emailed those guys the other day, I expect they will get back to me in a day or 2. I will let you know when they get back to me....

I do miss Alberta actually, everything is far too expensive in Europe and Moscow is even worse!! Plus my German and Russian suck!
