AMD backplane mounting issue 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I just purchased an ECO A.L.C to replace the stock cooler on my AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2HP motherboard.

The instructions provided with the ECO A.L.C. kit seem to indicate that the existing AMD back plate should be used.
But this is not possible, since the Gigabyte AMD CPU/FAN retention bracket uses plastic push pins and the existing back plate is not threaded. See attached photos.

It is unfortunate that the kit provides three Intel back plates but none for AMD mounting.

How can I obtain a free AMD back plate from CoolIt that will work with my Gigabyte motherboard and the ECO A.L.C. ??

Hey dude, seen your post. I have the same chip on an ASUS M4N82 Deluxe with the steel backplate retention and threaded screwholes... I can't seem to locate your pics... (I am kind of new to the forum, so if you see it and can point me to it let me know).

We have heard your issue about the AMD backing plates and are approaching a supplier for the "classic style".
There is an after market kit available which I will get the name of that I have heard about.

Intel motherboards do not come with a backing plate like the AMD boards do, hence are reasoning for not including one. A cost savings to the purchaser.

I'll get back to this thread as soon as I can with the name

No issues at all with my Gigabye GA-790FXTA-UD5 (AM3 socket).
