Hello Jon,
The noise is back! Cant silence this thing! I went as far as following your instructions to empty and refill with no luck getting rid of the noise. I am not all that hot on RMAing this thing because it is a pain in the ass to remove completely. That would be the third time taking my mobo out and would have to do it again when replacement shows up. Also, I have removed the metal side plate to allow better air flow as it blocks a 200mm case fan. I still have the plate, undamaged and not marked up. Is that going to affect warranty? I dont really want to have to remove it, but if all said and done, do you think it is defective? Or is that how they operate normally.
I really like the cooler, but the pump noise is annoying as all hell. What I did discover by emptying the unit and refilling, is the type of coolant makes a big difference. My Son races motocross and I use a product called Water Wetter for engine coolant. I diluted it at about a 10:1 ratio with distilled water for as low as viscosity as possible and still have some kind corrosion inhibiting ability. What I had noticed, is that with a much lower viscosity in the coolant, I maintain lower average temperature. Idle temp went from 43-44 deg C down to around 35 deg C (Intel E6850 @ 3.8GHZ).
Can I use just 100% distilled water or do I have to have an inhibitor in there also? And, is there anything to worry about other than freezing?

Thanks, 'rigger

I've RMA'd my DDB cooler a few times now. Once because I received the wrong unit, again because the pump stopped pumping, and once more because it started making the horrible noises as described. It is now making these noises again! What gives?! I purchased my original unit in mid March 2008, received in June 2008, so I doubt I could RMA it. This latest unit was received in February 2009 and is getting worse every day.

xmanrigger,

You can either Contact me directly and I will start the RMA process with you or I can send you the parts along with instructions on how to fix the unit and you can fix the unit yourself. I look forward to hearing your decision.

hey bud...
ive had that same reoccuring problem now for 6 months with my boreas. coolit says that those are old pumps and they agree that they are not that great. the problem we are having is that the bearings are loosening up and the thing rattles. they will of course give you a new old pump but the problem will come back. or you can buy their new ones for 100 bucks which are supposedly super industrial quality. the problem with those is that there is no really way to fill them. youd have to set something up like a fill port or t-line.... not too sure what or how.
because of that horribly irritating rattle im now splurging on a Heatkiller waterblock and this crazy cool pump/rez combo.

don't despair, the upgrades you are doing will surpass the original design with the factory pump....there hasn't been a mod I have done yet that hasn't improved on the original design, and I DECREASED the fan CFM's to 75 from the 110+cfm that came stock.....

Coolit's basic design is just fine, tinkering on their good design just makes it better.....my original pump lasted over three years, can't complain really.....have a new Dangergen pump on the way....

go for it, don't look back.............

laterzzzzz..........

It's been an on and off problem the last several months or so still. I'm so sick of this thing. I feel I've spent enough money on it as it is, why the hell should I spend another $100 on a pump that should have been used to begin with? I'll never buy another CoolIT product again, the poor quality of the pump combined with the number of times I had to RMA the unit and still end up with a defective (and out of warranty) one has turned me completely off CoolIT products. The design may be good, but with such a crappy pump, who cares?
