Need some advice on Freezone repair/ replacement 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
My fan started to make some noise and died then the pump crapped out. I've replaced the fan but the pump is now dead. I need some advice on how much to replace the pump and which one from where, or is it better to just get the Corsair Hydro unit? Is a repair Freezone a better unit when it is repaired. I don't do any over clocking as everytime I try to overclock my EVGA x58 and i7 940 but I have crash issues, so I don't. I mainly got the Freezone in Aug of 08 for its quietness. It's been replaced at least once and now its out of warranty. I would like to overclock and will try again in the future. But its saturday and nobody caries this kind of stuff except fry's and I got the corsair hydro and a masscool water cooling unit that they had to give me at $29 though it was marked $49 with 20 rebate( rebate did not exist). So any help info would be great as my unit is totally down and I am going through major withdrawls.
Thanks
D.

Yo D

If you still want to use your Freezone....... I highly suggest you do the same as I did. Read this thread - www.coolitsystems.com/index.php/communit...ne-tubing-size-.html

Basically, I replaced the pump with a pump/res combo, the cpu cooling block, and tubing. Results = Better performance in cooling, quietness, and maintenance.

If you have any questions, ask away.

What pump/res combo did you use and from where. Did you replace all your tubing etc and what liquid did you use. What do you think the overall $ was to do it. Did you find it was worth it vs. just getting something new less headache better etc.
thanks for you imput and help.

Huber,

MX5GG is right that using a pump/reservoir combo is probably the easiest way to fix the unit. Just make sure the pump is a low flow pump. Our older style pump runs at 2.2 l/min. Our barbs are 1/4 inner diameter.

Don,

follow the link i provided in my post after your intial thread starter. This link will show you all what I did and what/where I got the parts. PLUS the results.

basically I got the pump/res combo + cooling block + 1/4" ID fittings = www.performance-pcs.com.

I replace all of the tubing with the exception of the 3 inch tubing that crosses between the tank.

Liquid = 60% distilled water + 40% Prestone (or similiar)

New cooling block = I lapped it.... why? just because and wanted to try it....... plus... it was not quite flat... it had a high spot in the middle. it was a great experience lapping the block.

As for cost, when it was said and done...... it was around 130.00 bucks (sand paper for lapping job is extra)

Just follow the link and you will see what I did.

As for if it was worth it vs just buying something else or something with less performance or something else that cost more with less or more performance?

Absolutely it was worth it. What I did improved the performance greatly and it shows in the numbers (in the link)... maintnence of ever needing to refill is an absolute cinch now versus the original setup.. I dont have to remove the unit at all..... just pop the cap, fill, and return the cap.... that's it... plus you get to see the cool liquid. Look at the pictures.... in the link...

by the way..... I havent had to add any liquid to my system since the mod and that has been over 6 months now...

let me know if you have other questions...

Yo Rick....

that is one big pump/res combo .... it takes up two 5 1/4 slots... wow.....
