I was just wondering how to go about putting in recommendations for CoolIT products, I noticed the recommendations forum but it appears to be locked... anyone?

Anyway, my recommendation, if it's possible, is about the MTCC software. From what I have noticed, it seems like the predictive cooling works based on a combination of coolant temperature and processor usage; if the processor is under load, and the system predicts that the temp of the coolant will rise above what it has been set at, then the system raises the TEC and fan power. However, the problem I've noticed is that unless the load is constant, or constantly applied across the threads, then the fan speed and TECs are in constant flux, changing at least once per second. This makes the noise from the fan more noticeable as well. It may just be that my processor runs 8 threads, and therefore has a frequent change in load across each thread, but still I think there might be a way to improve this.

I'm just assuming that the MTCC software gets its processor usage information from the OS (could be wrong). If this is the case, can the software be altered so that instead of predicting what is going to happen based on any given moment, can the prediction be based on average processor usage every, say, 10 seconds? That way, the fan speed will only change every ten seconds, and might not change at all if the average total load to the processor stays about the same as it was for the previous ten seconds...

I guess this isn't really much of a problem at idle or at full load, but when gaming or video editing, I can see how frequent adjustments in load across the cores can lead to frequent fan speed adjustment and noise. Any thoughts? Again, this might just be a case of easier said than done, but I thought I'd just mention it.

Aaah, Homer moment. I now see where it should have gone... can a mod move it for me? Thanks

Hi mikellini,

Thanks for the feedback. The problem with averaging the usage over an extended time is that the temperature of the CPU can spike extemely fast. The purpose of Predictive Cooling is to react quickly, thus preventing the temperature from going as high. Averaging as suggested would pretty much eliminate any benefits.

That being said, can you let me know about your system (CPU, etc) and what cooler you're using? If you're noticing drastic changes in fan noise on a regular basis, the Predictive Cooling algorithm isn't working very well for some reason. Also, please make sure that you choose the correct cooler type and hardware settings in the MTEC Control Center software. Running the algorithm for the wrong hardware can really prevent it from working correctly.

Once again, thanks for the feedback!
